Westfield San Francisco

Posted on October 5, 2006

Last weekend, we visited the new Westfield San Francisco Centre, and wow it was sure crowded. There are five levels of stores, with each one seemingly to be very busy. Above that is a Century Theater (with 9 screens), a Burke Williams spa, and offices. Their food court, or as they call it, the food emporium, is in the basement. We ate lunch there, and the adventurious part was finding a table to eat at. Every table was taken, and most tables had someone lurking, waiting for the diner(s) to finish and leave.

It seemed like most people were there to simply take a look at the new place, and not necessarily to shop/buy. Most stores there were not unique, as you can find them in other malls. Even the new Bloomindale’s, the second largest after the one in New York, isn’t unique to the San Francisco Bay Area. But everyone seemed to be enjoying the place. Maybe it’s the newness of the place, or maybe there was some special sale going on (that I certainly didn’t know about). Maybe it was the free umbrellas Bloomindale’s was giving out to people who signed up for credit cards (and the funniest thing was most people in line for that will never shop there, judging by their style and/or their personal wealth appearance). Whatever the case, everyone seem to be having a good time.
